A TYRONE MAN landed the fist salmon of the new year on the River Drowse yesterday – just ten minutes into the new season.

Ian Martin, 46, from Tullyroan in Dungannon caught the 11lbs 7oz salmon with his second cast at the Drowse Salmon Fishery between Kinlough and Bundoran.

He goes into the record books as having been been the fastest angler to land a New Year salmon.
