SCOIL Mhuire gan Smál in Letterkenny is at the final stage of approval for a much needed extension, according to Donegal North East TD Niall Blaney.
The Department of Education has confirmed to Deputy Blaney that the plans for the development have been submitted.
The Department has asked the design team to make some minor changes before the plans go to tender.
Deputy Blaney explained: “If all goes according to plan, the tender process could begin within the next two weeks. I am hopeful that construction will commence without delay so the pupils of Scoil Mhuire gan Smál don’t have to wait much longer for these much-needed facilities.
“The school’s board, its teachers and parents have lobbied hard for this extension and I wish to pay tribute to them for their commitment to providing the best possible learning environment for their pupils.
“I know how much the school needs this development and I asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills Mary Coughlan to prioritise it. I am delighted to see it’s nearing the final stage.
“I also asked the Tánaiste to prioritise the works needed at St Eunan’s College and Scoil Cholmcille in Letterkenny. These schools are equally in need of extensions and I am working to ensure that approval is granted,” concluded Deputy Blaney.
