SINN FEIN TO CHOOSE ELECTION CANDIDATE THIS SUNDAY

SINN FEIN will hold their selection convention for a candidate to stand in forthcoming General Election this Sunday at the Radisson Hotel in Letterkenny.

There is only likely to be one candidate putting his name forward and that is Councillor Padraig MacLochlainn.

Both Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams and newly-elected TD Pearse Doherty will address delegates and local party activists.

Councillor Mac Lochlainn has also confirmed that he is the only person seeking the party’s endorsement on Sunday.

Commenting ahead of the event Cllr Mac Lochlainn said; “The recent by-election result in Donegal South West has shown that there is an appetite for new politics in Donegal.

“ The huge vote that Pearse Doherty and Sinn Féin received was an endorsement of our vision for the future of Irish politics. It was a recognition by many that Sinn Féin’s economic policies are right and can take us out of this crisis and generate employment.

“In a number of months the people of Donegal North East will get their chance to go to the polls.

“I will be seeking my Party’s nomination in order to offer an alternative vision to the failed politics that has abandoned Donegal for so long.

“With one of the highest unemployment rates in Ireland, the people of Donegal need and deserve strong representation in Leinster House.

“The time is right for new republican politics in this county and I look forward to the campaign ahead if selected.”

The Sinn Fein convention starts at 4pm.
