TD NAILL BLANEY TONIGHT denied patients were being treated in ambulances due to the pressure at Letterkenny General Hospital.
TD Joe McHugh made the allegations earlier today – and also claimed more the 1,800 patients have been treated in the past two weeks in the Emergency department.
He wants the new casualty unit opened as soon as possible to cope with the crisis.
“This is a ridiculous situation,” said McHugh today.
“There just isn’t enough space and we cannot afford to wait two more months for the new A&E unit to open.
“It is unbelievable in this day and age that patients should be treated in ambulances because there is no room in the hospital.”
Tonight Mr Blaney accused Mr McHugh of ‘untruths’.
“No-one has been treated in an ambulance, it’s just not true” said Blaney.
But McHugh is standing his claims.
No-one from the HSE was available for comment.
He wants the HSE to open the new unit within days.
