ONE of Ireland’s best-known food critics has caused a bit of a stir today – with his review of Donegal restaurants!
But it wasn’t fine dining which got the taste buds going of Paulo Tullio – his review in today’s Irish Independent is full of praise for Letterkenny’s ‘Bread & Butter’ cafe!
He writes: “We didn’t have high expectations when we sat down in a booth, but the service was excellent and, as it turned out, the food was well made. Toni wanted a light snack, so she ordered the homemade vegetable soup, which came with homemade bread, while I went for a simple dish of fish and chips.
“For simple café fare, I thought it was well done. Toni’s soup was well made, nicely presented and the bread was good, while my fish and chips were excellent, the batter on the cod crisp and dry, and the chips managed to be golden, crispy and soft inside. That’s exactly how I think chips should be made, but it’s surprising how rarely they arrive like that. A small ramekin of tasty tartar sauce accompanied the dish.
“A shared dessert of Malteser cheesecake and a pretty good espresso finished the meal, which left us both contented.”
Paulo also visited a number of other establishments including La Bella Donna in Donegal Town.
