A DONEGAL-based emergency medical technician pocketed a salary of more than €100k – €60 of that in overtime payments, an audit report has found.
Another ambulance worker in Sligo pocketed a similar salary. The basic pay is €40k.
The North West Region also splashed out €544,000 on taxis and private transport in 2009, the report found.
Tendering for such work however hasn’t been carried out since 2002!
A HSE spokesman said tendering will now take place for 2011.
The audit report found that in some cases staff certified their own time sheets and overtime claims.
And on one occasion staff ordered four chairs for €495 each when they could have bought the same chairs for €116.
