AN INVESTIGATION into claims a Catholic priest from Derry was involved in the 1972 Claudy bombings and then moved to Donegal as part of an alleged cover-up has questioned the media consensus surrounding the affair.
A report by the investigative journalist Anton McCabe in The Village magazine debunks the theories and media coverage.
“It is clear that media coverage got the Claudy report wrong,” argues McCabe.
“Media confusion seems to have begun because the press statement from the Ombudsman’s office had a significantly different emphasis to the report,” he says.
The report is clear Fr Chesney was not moved to Donegal to prevent police detaining him for questioning, he says.
