THE END OF THE FIANNA FAIL ROAD FOR CECILIA KEAVENEY

CECILIA KEAVENY faces the chop from Fianna Fail tonight.

After weeks of internal party fighting, members in Inishowen are expected to ditch the Senator in favour of a party councillor as running mate in Donegal North East with Niall Blaney.

The party meets at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel in Buncrana tonight. Keaveney will not attend, leaving the way open for Cllr Charlie McConalogue.

The Senator – at the centre of an expenses probe – said yesterday: “There is bullying going on here and it is not acceptable. Meetings are being held at short notice without proper notification. Usually these would be scheduled around the duties of the national public representative but that hasn’t happened.

“I have still not been contacted in relation to the general election and I cannot understand why there has been such a lack of communication.

“I was informed about last Sunday’s meeting on Saturday night at 8.20pm when I was already on my way to the Council of Europe. It was too short notice. I was elected to do a job [as a senator] and I will continue to do that job.”

She may now stand as an Independent.
