THEY SPECIALISE in making bread, but the owners of Ardara bakery Gallagher’s certainly know how to make the dough!
The pocketed a whopping €980 MILLION in just three months last year!
The eye-watering profits are being set against the bid to fire 140 staff at the company’s Donegal bakery.
Gallagher’s is now part of Swiss food company Aryzta, and has links with Cuisine de France.
In the 13 weeks up to October 2010 alone Arytza had a revenue of 970.8 Million! Their income increased by 33% in the same period.
“These massive corporations believe that they have the right to destroy communities and walk all over workers,” complained the Socialist Workers Party who revealed the figures.
Liam White on behalf of the workers sent socialist worker the following statement: “After a meeting of the rank and file workers in Gallagher’s Bakery it was decided that a democratically elected workers committee should be formed to represent the workers interest and to fight to maintain what are after all valid jobs in a profitable company.
“We have agreed that it is an absolute disgrace that a faceless beuraucrat in some office is going to rip the heart out of a local community for a few extra euro.
“This company does not care about people’s lives and we are going to fight with all our strength and energy to make sure we get what we deserve.”
