SENIOR STAFF at Gallaghers’ bakery in Ardara have emerged as the new owners of the fresh bread section of the business.

The management buy-out from owners IAWS preserves 50 positions at the bakery.

More than 120 others will still lose their jobs and are still being denied representation rights by the wealthy Swiss company which is closing the frozen bread production part of Gallaghers.

Donegal South West Brian Ó Domhnaill confirmed that Swiss parent company, IAWS, has accepted a local bid for the fresh food part of the bakery.

“A group of senior employees at Gallaghers submitted an offer to IAWS to take over the fresh food part of the bakery in a bid to save between 40 and 50 jobs,” he said.

“Management have now accepted this, and the process is underway to transfer this section of the business to its new owners.”
