ILLIES BOXER Willie McLaughlin’s Olympic dreams are in tatters when he lost on a count back to the impressive Craig McCarthy at the National Championship premilinaries in Dublin.

Both welterweights were locked at 0-0 at the end of the first.

McLaughlin finally got through with a right in the second, but McCarthy got through with a right of his own to make it 1-1 before having his hand raised in triumph on accepted scores against the 2009 AIBA World Senior Championships quarter-finalist.

In the female featherweight quarter-finals there were two inside the distance wins for- for Ryton’s  Dervla Duffy and Emma Agnew (Dealgan)  at the expense of Tara Keane ( St Anne’s Westport)  and Angela Crawford (Raphoe).
