CHARITIES BENEFIT FROM JUDGE’S ORDERS

February 15, 2011

THE MARY from Dungloe festival and the Tidy Towns committee in Dungloe have had an unexpected cash windfall – thanks to local judge Seamus Hughes.

A number of defendants recently have been ordered to pay donations to the charities as part of their sentences for convictions.

Declan Sharkey, of Gweedore Road, Dungloe was ordered to pay €200 to the charities after admitting possession of €20 of cannabis.

James O’Donnell, Fairhill, Dungloe, was ordered to pay €125 to the Mary from Dungloe committee for driving without car tax.

And Garry O’Donnell, Mullantiboyle, Glenties, was ordered to pay €250 to the charities for failing to display an NCT certificate.
