JUDGE HUGHES TO LEAVE DONEGAL FOR MULLINGAR ON MARCH 7TH

February 16, 2011

Judge Seamus Hughes is to leave Donegal and take up an appointment in Mullingar District Court.

The Mayo native and former Fianna Fail TD is to become Judge John Neilan’s replacement.

He will take up his post in District Number Nine, which incorporates Mullingar, on March 7th.

The Government made the decision to appoint Judge Hughes to this area last week.

A native of Westport, Seamus Hughes was a Fianna Fáil TD for Mayo between 1992 and 1997. He was appointed as a District Court Judge in the summer of 2009.

Since December of that year he has worked in District Court area Number One, which incorporates areas in Donegal including Buncrana, Dungloe, Glenties, and Letterkenny.

During his time in Donegal he criticised public order offences as well as the boy racer mentality of some young drivers.

He famous ordered a Rathmullan man to climb Croagh Patrick after the man abused a Garda and told him to go back to Mayo.
