SMOKEY POOL: A publican has been ordered to hand over €854.75 in compensation after admitting that punters were smoking in a pool room in his bar. Sean Connelly, landlord of Biddy’s Crossroads Bar at Cashel, Glencolmcille was before Donegal District Court after a case brought by the HSE. The offence was detected on June 6 last.
BOTANY BAY?: A Sligo man hoping to move to Australia is instead doing 28 days behind bars after headbutting a window at the Pheonix Tavern in Bundoran. Padraig Feeney of Newgrange, Grange, was also fined €400 for the offence, which took place on January 30, when he appeared in court.
GREAT CATCH: ‘Deadliest Catch’ star Corey Arnold is to visit the fishing village of Greencastle on March 2 for the opening An Taisce’s Clean Coast photography exhibition. Arnold will give a presentation on his life on a Bering Sea crab vessel, salmon fishing in Alaska as well as his more recent travels on fishing boats across nine European countries.
CYCLING KING: Sean Kelly, one of Ireland’s greatest every cyclists, is supporting Glenties man Johnny Patterson on the local cyclist’s 26-county cycle next month. Amateur Johnny is raising money for a number of charities including the oncology unit at Letterkenny General. Kelly hopes to join him on a stretch of the 7-day cycle through Clonmel.
