ONE OF Donegal’s leading hoteliers is ‘extremely excited’ at the prospect of more American tourists coming to Donegal this year after taking part in a whistle-stop tour of the southern states.
Deirdre McGlone, proprietor of the plush Harvey’s Point hotel at Lough Eske near Donegal Town, told donegaldaily.com that tour operators in places like Jacksonville and Miami were gobsmacked by the beauty of the county.
“When we showed them images of Slieve League, they were stunned by its beauty but they were also amazed by what Donegal has to offer, especially when it comes top quality hotels and superb golf courses,” she said.
“I was there promoting the whole of Donegal after years when tourists who came to this country came into Dublin and followed that with trips to Cork and Kerry.
“Now those same tourists want to come to the North West which is great news for the county.
“They know when they do come that they won’t spend their time bumping into other tourists and that they will get a real experience of Ireland and of the real Donegal.”
Deirdre added: “I’m came home very excited by the potential of Donegal and the entire North West this year. It has been fantastic to get such a reaction and we are confident our tour of the southern States of America will begin to yield results.
“It really is good news for Donegal.”
