Gaelforce Events, Ireland’s leading adventure race organisers, are delighted to announce that they are adding a new event to their calendar for 2011, Gaelforce North, which will take place on the 4th of June in Gaoth Dobhair.

Gaelforce Events is an adventure race company based on the West Coast of Ireland. They run a number of adventure races including Gaelforce West, which over the last 5 years has grown to become the largest event of its kind in the world and brings over 9000 people into the region each year.

They have recognised the great potential that the Donegal region has for the adventure tourism market and are hoping to enable a huge number of competitors to discover all that the region has to offer from scenery to hotels, accommodation and activities.

“I spent all my childhood summers in Donegal. I love the area and when we decided to run a race a different region of Ireland, I knew straight away that Donegal had everything we would be looking for” states Mona Purcell, Gaelforce Events Director, “With the added backing of Failte Ireland we are hoping to bring a huge amount of people into the area and boost the tourism for 2011 and for the coming years”

Gaelforce North will be the sister event of Gaelforce West and includes cycling, running and kayaking over a 61 km course. Competitors will take in parts of the Glenveigh National Park, Gartan lake, a cycle around the Derryveagh Mountains, climbing Errigal and finishing with a cycle back to Bunbeg.

For the first year, Gaelforce Events are hoping to bring at least 1000 competitors plus 2000 supporters into the region for the June Bank Holiday.

Entries are now open for the event. For more details visit www.gaelforceevents.com.
