One local Donegal family turned their attention to the political scene in Dublin at the weekend.
Michael Connaghan who is from Calhame in Dunkineely was elected on the third count as a Labour party candidate in the Dublin South Central constituency.
The former Lord Mayor of Dublin received 5,500 first preference votes in the tightly contested five seater constituency with 16 other candidates.
His brother Bernard Connaghan who lives in Killybegs says he is very proud of Michael’s achievements.
“We’re all delighted for Michael. He did very well and we are extremely proud of him,” he said.
