DANIEL O’DONNELL has spoken of his terror after discovering some of his relatives were caught up in the New Zealand earthquake terror.
The singer, who is currently touring America, revealed how he got a shock when he heard the news that the city of Christchurch had been hit by the disaster.
The Kincasslagh singer told how his first thought was that his wife Majella’s sister lived there.
“It was terrible to hear about the earthquake. Majella’s sister lives there and we were glad when we heard from her to know that she and her family were safe and sound,” he said.
He also revealed how an office in which his brother-in-law works was tossed to the ground and that rescue workers are still trying to find workers who are missing from the company.
However his brother-in-law was found safe and well.
“Also, as you know, there were a lot of deaths and injured people so our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time,” he said.
The singer leaves America next weekend and will be back home in Donegal for a few weeks before heading back out to his sun-kissed holiday home in Tenerife.
Daniel also revealed how he was looking forward to performing for the first time on a cruise ship tour.
“You may have heard that I am doing a cruise next year from Fort Lauderdale to the Caribbean. It is an Irish cruise with lots of different Irish artists and it has been going on every year for about 25 years.
“This is the first time that I will be doing it and it should be great fun! It will take place from the 12th February 2012 to the 19th February 2012 and it’s on the Holland America Shipping Lines. It should be great fun,” he said.
