MURDERED COUPLE HAD JUST RETURNED FROM WEEKEND BREAK IN LETTERKENNY

The Armagh couple who were brutally murdered in their home yesterday had just returned from a weekend break in Letterkenny.

Police believe husband and wife, 56 year-old  Hugh McGeough, and Jacqueline McGeough, 44, were murdered at their Legahory Court home, Craigavon, at about 11pm on Monday.

The couple are believed to have stayed at a local hotel and socialised in the town on Friday and Saturday evening.

However police do not believe the couple’s visit to Donegal had any connection to their brutal double-murder.

It is understood the couple were both shot in the head.

Mr McGeough was known to police and had been acquitted of the murder of a 19-year-old man in Craigavon in 2001.

Officers from the PSNI’s serious crime branch, who are leading the probe, said their inquiries were at an early stage.

Police last night cordoned off a wide area around the flat where the fatal shootings took place.

Local sources said the area had been blighted by drug-related crime.
