A 72 year old Letterkenny musician was found swerving his car from one side to the other after playing a gig.

Garda Shane Lavelle stopped John Sweeney at Mountain Top, Letterkenny after noticing his car taking both sides of the road.

When he stopped Sweeney of Ballymaleel, Letterkenny, he refused to give a sample and was arrested.

Solicitor Michael Shiels told Letterkenny District Court his client was a musician and was playing in a pub on the evening he was stopped by Gardai.

“He hadn’t planned on drinking but he had the one and then another and it just escalated from there,” he said.

Mr Shiels said Sweeney was an old age pensioner, his family had grown up and that his wife was in ill health.

Judge Denis McLoughlin fined Sweeney €500 and banned him from driving for six years.
