FORMER Irish Olympian, Marcus O’Sullivan, paid a flying visit to the club on Tuesday night.
O’Sullivan, a four times Olympian, won three gold medals at the World Indoor Championships over 1500m.
He is third all-time (trailing Steve Scott and John Walker (runner)) with total sub-4 minute miles.
This was a fanstastic occasion for the club members who met him during a training stint and he passed on a few very useful tips. O’Sullivan qualified for four Olympic Games for Ireland: 1984, 1988, 1992, and 1996, at both 800 meters and 1500 meters. He reached the 1500 metre finals at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
He set an indoor 1500 metres world record of 3:35.4 on 10 February 1989, and was generally regarded as a better competitor running indoors. This is evidenced by the fact that O’Sullivan won the prestigious Wanamaker Mile in Madison Square Garden’s Millrose Games five times (1986, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1992).
Well done to Garvan McCloskey (67.30), Paul Cosgrove (69.13) and John Coleman (79.06) who competed very well in the Craughwell 10 mile race in Galway at the weekend.
The club was delighted with the large turnout at the St Patrick’s Day 5k with 143 competitors. Our club captain, Gary Crossan is busy preparing for the Conemara Ultra Marathon., A club meeting was due to be held last night (Thursday). The lotto numbers are the weekend were: 14, 15, 17 and 23. Match three winner was Con McLaughlin. The jackpot this Saturday night in The Glencar Inn is €570.
