Pupils at a Letterkenny secondary school are to be screened for TB after one of the pupils confirmed positive for the disease.
The pupils at the Loreto Convent will undergo the screening next Monday as part of a routine treatment programme.
It is believed the pupil developed the symptoms of the condition and attended a doctor where the infection was confirmed yesterday.
Worried parents will today be given a full briefing by specialist HSE West staff at the school.
However Dr. Anthony Breslin, a specialist in Public Health Medicine, says parents should not be alarmed by the case of tuberculosis.
“We will screen all those who have had close contact with the pupils including the classmates.
“It is difficult for people of a young age to pass on the infection to others but we have to do it as a matter of routine because we have to be safe,” he said.
