Gardai are today hunting a crazed hit-and-run driver who smashed into another car – and then fled the scene.

Detectives are searching for a silver BMW after the incident at the hospital roundabout in Letterkenny at 3am on Saturday.

Gardai say a silver BMW car crashed in to another car causing injuries to its driver and passenger.

A third vehicle was damaged when the victims’ car was shunted on to it.

The silver BMW then slammed in to a lamp post before its driver and a passenger then fled the scene.

The two people hurt in the smash were taken to Letterkenny General Hospital nearby, though their injuries are not thought to be serious.

Gardai sealed off the scene of the crash for a time and interviewed the victims of the hit-and-run and the driver of the damaged third car.

We understand Gardai are following a definite line of inquiry and officers have urged the BMW driver to hand himself in to Letterkenny Garda station.

A source revealed: “We believe it is only a matter of time before this person has been located.”
