STAFF at Letterkenny General Hospital has launched a fund-raising drive to be specialist equipment for its Eye Department.
The Save Or Sight (SOS) campaign will benefit from some of the funds raised from this year’s North West 10k event in the town.
The equipment is badly needed. Currently patients have to travel to Sligo General Hospital to have their eyes examined by a specialist machine which helps to diagnose cataracts, macular degeneration and other conditions.
The eye department needs to raise half of the €50k required – with the HSE offering the other half.
Community Eye Doctor Joanne Kearney says the machine will mean people no linger have to be referred to Sligo for diagnosis.
