PORTSALON GOLF CLUB NOTES

 Mulroy Links

The last outing of the 2010/2011 Mulroy Links prior to the prestigious Captains prize was staged at Portsalon golf club on Saturday last. The event played in excellent weather conditions attracted a smaller than  usual turnout. The overall results were as follows; in the gross section the winner was Derek O’Neill (2) 35 points 2nd Darragh Mc Menamin (4) 33 points, 3rd Enda Kennedy (0)  33 points. In the nett section the winner was Donal Barrett (17) 39 points, 2nd Connor Connolly (5) 37 points 3rd Tony Kingston (12) 36 points. The final outing of the Mulroy Links will be the prestigious Captains day and the date for this event at Rosapenna Golf Club is Saturday 9th April.

 Results.

The winner of the open staged on Wednesday 23rd   March was Peter O’Donnell (24) 40 points, Runner up Bernard Nash (18) 36 points, gross Joe Coyle (6) 27 points 3rd Daniel Shields (15) 36 points.  The CSS was 36 points. In the members competition played on Sunday 27th March and this attracted one of the largest entries of the year,  playing in excellent weather conditions the winner was John Logue playing off a 12 handicap with 40 points, Runner up Fergal Mc Donnell (21) 40 points, Gross Barry M Gettigan (2) 34  points  3RD Giles Kilpatrick (13) 39 points. The CSS was 37 points.

Gaeltacht League

Portsalon Golf Club’s final match in this season’s Gaeltacht League was staged at Portslon on Saturday 20th when the Kingdom club entertained Cruit Island Golf Club. The home team emerged winners by five and half matches to Cruit Island’s four and half matches. This result should now see the Portsalon team contest for the overall Gaeltacht League title which will be staged at Cruit Island Golf Club in April. The Gaeltacht League Captain Willie Mc Cleary would like to thank all the golfers who participated in this season’s competition.

Events

On Saturday 2nd April there is a gents open competition and on Sunday 3rd  April  there is a member’s competition. On Wednesday 6th April there is  an open gents 18 hole stableford competition A time sheet is in operation for all competitions at Portsalon Golf Club, contact 074 91 59459 for your tee time or go online at portsalongolfclub.com

 

Mixed Foursomes

The Portsalon captains for the 2011 mixed foursomes competitions for 2012 is Kevin Mc Gonagle and Marie Gilligan. The captains have arranged a nine hole mixed foursomes competition each Friday with a tee off at 5.15 p.m The first mixed foursomes competition will be staged on Friday 1st April.

 

Voucher Sunday

The much awaited voucher Sunday competition will be staged on Sunday 10th April. In order to play in this event the members must have a minimum of one instalment of €160 paid towards their 2011 golfing fees.

Winter placing

Members and visitors should note that there is 6 inch placing on all fairways.
