More than €2.4million in funding is being allocated for the development of the N56 Dungloe to Glenties road this year as part of a massive upgrade.

A further €7.5million and €10million in funding is anticipated for 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Advance environmental surveys have been completed and preliminary ground investigations have been substantially completed.

The project will now move to Compulsory Purchase Order stage and that construction of the central section at Meenacarn can be started this year

Sinn Fein Councillor, Marie Therese Gallagher said that the state of the road was one reason that people didn’t travel the N56 road.
