FROM SEAN DOHERTY AT PARKHEAD: THERE were remarkable scenes here at Parkhead this afternoon as Celtic fans where ‘Bhoyed’ up despite losing the title to Rangers.
As it became clear that Rangers were going to take the title after going into a 3-0 lead at Kilmarnock in the first nine minutes, there was a deathly mood at Celtic Park.
But as we began the process of beating Motherwell, the mood changed.
Rangers winning the title no longer seemed to matter. A large crowd of us have been travelling to Glasgow from Donegal all season (and for many other seasons). When Derry man Paddy McCourt scored our fourth goal we decided ‘What the hell do we care’ and we all did a massive Hoops Huddle.
That’s what is different about Celtic fans. The lyrics of our fan songs say it – we follow them through thick and thin.
Rangers won 5-1 at Rugby Park. Kilmarnock never got over that first ten minutes.
Here at Celtic Park, the Hoops did us proud. We played football the Celtic way today.
We had 65% of possession and 15 attempts at goal.
Goals from Hooper and Samaras in the first half and two more from Maloney and McCourt in the second saw us beat Motherwell 4-0.
As fans we have paid tribute to our side. They’ve done their best.
And many of us will be back in Glasgow next weekend to watch our Hoops take on Motherwell again – this time in the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden.
After all we are Celtic supporters, faithful through and through. Over and Over, we will follow you.
* We hope to have video of Celtic fans’ loyalty to their side later tonight.
