On what can only be described as a miserable morning weather wise 254 women braved the wind and rain for the inaugural Rundonegal Womens 5k held in Glenveagh.
The money raised went to charities nominated by the incumbent Donegal Lord Mayor Cora Harvey – the benefitting charities Diabetes and Strengthening Families programme.
Cora was indeed out their taking part joined by family members and all were set on their way by race director Grace Boyle pretty much on time at 11 am.
Some chose to run, others walked and the best on the day was Letterkenny’s Noreen Mc Gettigan ahead from Clonmany teacher Teresa Doherty and Ballybofey athlete Noleen Porter 3rd.
This is an event that surely will grow in the years ahead and with Donegal Co Co on board in support it offers an exciting prospect also too in years to come as the intention is that each incoming Mayor will lend their support and nominate a charity.
A big thank you to the staff at Glenveagh and sponsors Lucozade and the usual support team without whom these community events just do not happen.
