PORTSALON GOLF CLUB NOTES

Portsalon Golf Club

Results

It was a case of the weather winning throughout the week as the rain and winds blew across the sandy banks of Portsalon golf course. The numbers playing during the week were well down on previous weeks. However the brave, the seasoned and enthusiastic golfers still managed to get the round completed. The winner of the Wednesday open played on 11th May was Stephen Connolly (6) 37 points , Runner up D P Logue (5) 35 points, 3rd John Goudie (23) 31 points . The CSS was 36 points. On Saturday 21st the winner of the open gents competition was Gareth Mc Larnon (14) 38pts runner up Donal Barrett (16) 34pts Gross John Shields (3) 31 points The CSS was 33 points. Sunday the weather conditions were not favourable and only a few brave and dedicated golfers took to the ‘Banks’ the winner was Kevin Mc Fadden with 34 points. The CSS was 34 points non counting.

Events

On Saturday 21st May there is a gents open 18 hole stableford competition. On Sunday 22nd May there is a members competition and on Wednesday 25TH May there is an open gents 18 hole stableford competition A time sheet is in operation for all competitions at Portsalon Golf Club, contact 074 91 59459 for your tee time or go online at portsalongolfclub.com

Donegal Minor League

The Portsalon golf club’s Donegal Minor League team teed off on Saturday last in the first round first leg match. The Portsalon team under the direction of club President Willie Mc Cleary travelled to Rosapenna Golf Club and came away with a three matches to two victory.

Ulster Fourball

On Sunday the Ulster Fourball team entertained Nuromore Golf Club Co Monaghan on Sunday last and under the leadership of Garret Horkin the Portsalon team came away with a four matches to one victory in this first leg match..

Donegal League

The team events will continue on Sunday 23rd with John Logue leading his team in this seasons Donegal League match. The visitors to Portsalon is Redcastle golf club. The first tee is reserved for the Donegal League match from 2.30 – 3.30

Donegal Links Classic

Time is running out to book your place on this years Donegal Links Classic. The event is scheduled for May 30th ,31st and June 1st and played at Ballyliffen, Portsalon and Rosapenna golf courses.To avoid disappointment and to gain an entry into this magnificent golfing event contact Ballyliffen Golf Club on 074 9376119

Mixed Foursomes

The Portsalon mixed foursomes team travelled to Dunfanaghy golf club for the qualifying competition on Sunday last. Playing in adverse weather conditions the Portsalon team under the joint captain’s Marie Gilligan & Kevin Mc Gonagle failed by the narrowest margins to qualify. The joint captains would like to thank all who attended the mixedfoursomes practices rounds and those who travelled on Sunday last.

Match Play.

Entries are now been taken for the 2011 singles and doubles match play events. In order to have your name included in the dray for both events your entry fee must be paid at the time of entry.

Divot Bags

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance.

Tee Reserved

Members should note that the first tee will be reserved on Sunday from10.30 to 10.48 a from 11.33 to 12.18 and from 2.30 to 3.30 .

Placing

Our green keeper John Shields would like to inform all members and visitors that placing on fairways has ended.
