RECESSION GETS WORSE AS EVEN PEACE CENTRE GOES BUST

IT offered hope and a place of solace during the dark days of the Troubles, but today it was announced that An Teach Ban peace centre in Downings has had to call a creditors meeting.

Operating since 1985, An Teach Ban (The White House) has been a residential centre which provided a place of refuge, a safe haven for people in need of peace and quiet, away from the conflict in the North.

“The approach of the work that goes on at An Teach Ban is based on telling and sharing stories in a safe, confidential, sympathetic environment,” said one director two years ago.

“People have the opportunity to meet for the first time and, in the process, often discover common ground and recognise that there is always someone whose situation is worse than their own.”

The creditors meeting is scheduled for the Clanree Hotel, Derry Road, Letterkenny on Wednesday June 8th at 11:30am.
