GOLF – PORTSALON GC NOTES

On Sunday last Portsalon Golf Club played host for the GUI Barton Shield. The event was a team match play foursomes competition. The event teed off on Friday evening with a match between Letterkenny and Rosapenna which saw Letterkenny advance to the Sunday event. On Sunday playing in excellent weather conditions and the course manicured to look its very best the matches commenced with sixteen teams. The Portsalon team of John Shields & Connor Connolly, D P Logue & Michael Finley were defeated in the first round. Following Sunday’s play the field was reduced to four teams. The semi final line up is Portrush vs North West, Portstewart vs Foyle dates for the semi final which will also be staged at Portsalon golf course on 17th July 2011.

Results

On Saturday 11th June the winner of the open competition played at Portsalon Golf club was Michael Bowe (24) with 40 points, runner up John Mc Gettigan (16) 38 points, Gross Connor Connolly (4) points, 3rd Thomas Merrtit (18) Otway 37 points. The CSS was 37 points.

Events

On Saturday 18th June there is an open gents stableford competition. On Sunday 19th June there is the usual members competition, and on Wednesday 22nd June a gents 18 hole stableford open competition. Team News

J B Carr.

Portsalon’s quest for glory in this season’s J B Carr trophy came to an end on Friday evening as the visiting Ballybofey team were outright winners by four matches to Portsalons one match.

Senior League.

The Portsalon senior league team played their first round match against entertained North West golf club and the Buncrana team emerged overall winners by eight matches to six.

Membership

All members who are paying their fees by the instalment method should note that the third payment will be due by 30th June 2011.

Divot Bags

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance.
