A security company boss has offered a reward of €500 after one of his employees was attacked and racially abused in Letterkenny Town Park.

Martin Hilferty of Orbit Security said he is disgusted at the attack which happened last Saturday night.

Mr Hilferty revealed how one of his officers, a man in his early 40s, was set upon by a group of six people when he asked them to leave the town park.

The man, who has worked for the company for the past 10 years, was locking up the park at around 10pm by the group who were aged between 21 and 26.

He noticed a group of people – five men and one woman – sitting on the swings of the playground.

He told them the park was closing and asked them to leave.

However instead of following his directions, the group attacked the man, pushed him to the ground and began to beat him up.

The group only stopped attacking their victim when the young woman among the gorup begged them to stop.

Mr Hilferty said he was outraged at the incident and offere a reward of €500 for their arrests.

“In my seventeen years with the company, this is the worst thing we have encountered.

“This was a man doing his job and he was set upon by these thugs when he asked them to leave the park.

“I am offering a reward because I want these people brought to justice. Somebody must know who they are,” he said.

The victim, who is a native of Ghana, was also racially abused and has not returned to work since his horrific ordeal.
