Sharp rise in population
Figures released by the Central Statistics Office shows a major increase in the population of Letterkenny. There are now 29,156 people living in the town and its adjoining areas – an increase of 30% since 2006.
Pulling the wool
Sheep farmers in Donegal are reporting a significant rise in the price of wool for the first time in a number of years.
Our favourite Rose
A Gartan woman has been installed as the favourite to win this year’s Rose of Tralee by bookmaker Paddy Power. Grainne Boyle, 24, the daughter James and Grace Boyle, is 6/1 early favourite to lift this year’s crown.
Operating a shebeen
A Letterkenny man has ben found guilty of operating a ‘shebeen’ from his house at 7 Errigal Road. Sean Barclay, 39, was charged with operating a bar without a license. The case has been adjourned until October to monitor Barclay’s home.
House for just €25,000
A house in Milford has been put on the market with a reserve price of just €25,000. The house at 135 Mount Marian is in need of some repair.
What a mouthful!
A Ballybofey man is feeling down in the mouth after being told it wil take two years before he can have a painful tooth taken out at Letterkenny general Hospital. Ronald Wilson says he is in excruciating pain.
Nursing an ambition to write a novel
A former nurse and chiropodist is about to release her first novel. Jeanette Gallen, nee Harkin, has written ‘Life Be Golden’ – a romantic novel based on a medical student. The book will be launched at Universal Books in Letterkenny on August 8th at 11am.
