EARAGAIL ARTS FESTIVAL 2011 : LET THE FUN BEGIN!

It has been a year in the planning and tonight the 2011 Earagail Arts Festival kicks-off in spectacular fashion.

It may not officially be the first event of the two week long carnival of theatre, song, music and dance but the festival parade announces to Donegal that the Earagail Arts Festival has officially started.

As dusk falls a carnival cornucopia of flora and fauna takes to the streets of the Cathedral Town for the opening evening of the 23rd annual festival.

The parade features an exotic blend of leopard and zebra dancers, lions and tigers, stilt-walking giraffes, burlesque pink flamingo dancers and a whole lot of monkey business.

But this veritable paradise is about to be rudely disturbed as some menacing figures lurch from the shadows.

A carnival parade featuring illuminated props, live music and stunning performance presented by arts and community groups across the North West led by Inishowen Carnival Group.

Earlier on in the evening The Prodigal Theatre presents The Tragedian at An Grianan while at the Letterkenny Town Park, a Feast of the Senses kicks-of at 9pm.

But that’s just for starters.

What follows over the next two weeks will be a feast of main courses, side dishes and deserts to satisfy the most curious of pallets!

Donegaldaily.com will bring you updates from many of the events as we catch them.

*We can’t be everywhere so if you have pictures of your time at the Earagail Arts Festival email them to us and we’ll put them up on the site. There’ll be a prize for the picture which best captures the spirit of the festival!

Ends
