BY MARIE DUFFY

Fianna Fail MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher has extended his condolences to the people of Norway following the horrific attacks in Utoya Island and Oslo city centre.

The Donegal politician is Chairperson of the European Parliament delegation that oversees political relations with Norway,

Mr Gallagher has spoken with his counterpart Ine Erikson Soreide MP, Chair of the Norway delegation, to extend his deepest sympathies to the Norwegian people at this difficult time.

He said: “My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the people who were so brutally killed and injured in Utoya and Oslo yesterday. The attacks that took place on Utoya Island happened at a political gathering of young people who both cherished and promoted democracy – a value that we all must seek to protect at all times.”
