Portsalon Captains Day

Preparations are now completed for the 2011 Captains Prize at Portsalon Golf Club. The highlight of any golfers dream is to have the title of club captain bestowed on them by the members and this years captain at Portsalon Golf Club is Donal Callaghan. Donal’s Captains Day will be played on Saturday 6th August . A time sheet is in operation for the past few weeks and members should not that only a few places remain. Presentation of prizes will take place in the club house at 10 pm The evening will concluded with music and dancing. The President Wm Mc Cleary and members of Portsalon Golf Club would like to wish Donal Callaghan success on this his special day at Portsalon Golf Club.

Results

On Saturday last the Sean Mc Gettigan open golf classic was staged at Portsalon golf club. The event as in previous years attracted a large turnout.In addition to playing on the golden ‘’Banks’’ of Ballymastocker Bay the golfers were treated to an excellent meal with a wide variety of meats and fish on offer. The results were as follows; winners O Mc Gettigan, M Mc Gettigan , J Harley and J Corry with 100 points, 2nd J Friel, N Mc Conigley, D O’Toole and S Barrett 96 points, 3rd C Toland, J Mc Grath, T Russell, D

Deeney with 93 point. The Captain Donal Callaghan thanked Sean Mc Gettigan for organising the event and preparing such a magnificent meal on the day. The winner of the Wenesday open played on 20th was P Mc Daid (14) Letterkenny 41 points, 2nd S Faulkner (10) 39 Gross D P Logue (5) 32 points 3rd A Conaghan (21) Letterkenny 39 points. The CSS was 36 points. On Sunday the open winner was J Mc Gettigan (15) 41 points, 2nd T Russell (11) 39 points Gross D P Logue (5) 33 points 3rd B Nash (18) 38 points. The CSS was 36 points. On Monday 1st August the winner of the open competition was S Kelly (9) 41 points, 2nd M Crowley (11) Strabane 39 points, Gross C Davidson (15) Letterkenny 25 points, 3rd D Malone (19) Charleville 38 points. The CSS was 36 points.

Team News

The first leg of the Donegal League semi final was staged at Portsalon on Friday evening and the result will see the Portsalon team taking a four and half to a half match lead to Ballyliffen.

Events

On Saturday 6th August its Donal Callaghan’s Captain’s Day. On Sunday 7th August there is a members competition and on Wednesday 10th August there is a gents 18 hole stableford competition.

Saturday 13th August the Diarmad Coll sponsored open,Wednesday 17th gents open, Friday 19th Cancer open ladies and gents.Saturday 20th August will be President Willie Mc Clearys day

Match Play

Members are reminded that theall match play who are due to have their match played should note that in the event of the matches not being played by the due date a draw will take place to determine who proceeds to the next round.

Divot Bags

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance
