Burt GAA Club Notes
The senior hurlers booked their place in the Ulster League Division 3 Final on Sunday after beating Antrim’s Clooney Gaels 4-21 to 4-8 in Maghera.
Burt started the semi-final in great fashion hitting 1-3 without reply before Clooney Gaels pulled a goal back. However Burt claimed another goal themselves and with twenty minutes gone led by 2-8 to 1-2. A ten minute period before half-time saw Burt lose shape and concede two goals in quick succession. Half-time score: Burt 2-10, Clooney Gaels 3-4.
The sun came out for the second half, and with the ground becoming less slippery and greasy, Burt upped their tempo and work rate to surge ahead. There was some great points preceded by superb passages of play as players became more comfortable on the ball.
Next up for the senior hurlers is a home championship match against Setanta on Wednesday week. Good luck to the team and management.
The senior footballers get back to action this week when they travel to Buncrana on Wednesday for a league match. Throw-in is 7.30pm. The reserve game is at 6.15pm. On Sunday, the footballers play Naomh Padraig Muff in the Junior Championship quarter-final at Ture.
The U16 hurlers had a comfortable win over Carn last Tuesday in the league and on Thursday they played out a draw with Buncrana. The Buncrana game saw the rare sight of Burt and Donegal senior hurling team-mates Joe Boyle and Stevie Boyle in opposite dug-outs. Perhaps a draw was a fair result so no man had bragging rights in the changing room! This Thursday they are away to St Eunans.
The U12 hurlers were beaten by Buncrana last Thursday. It was their first defeat of the season and despite Buncrana winning well on the scoreline, Burt put up well on the field but they just couldn’t find the scores to stay in touch. With both teams missing a number of regulars, hopefully the two sides will meet again later in the season with a full lineout. This Thursday they are home to St Eunans.
The U14 footballers play Glenfin in the NB Championship shield semi-final this Wednesday in Glenfin. Sean McHugh will be in contact.
The U13 ½ football match v Moville has been switched from this Tuesday to Friday to accommodate the U14 footballers. Again Sean McHugh will be in contact about details.
