Burt GAA Club Notes

The long awaited social event of the summer takes place this Friday 26 August. The Jigs’n’Rigs  Irish dance event sees the Burt GAA Club and Evans School of Irish Dancing come together and match members from our club with the dancers from the Evans school to raise funds for both parties.

The show takes place in the Halfway House, Tooban, Burnfoot and kicks off at 8pm. Tickets for adults are €15 and children under 12 can pay at the door on the night for €7. It has nearly been a sell-out with only a few tickets left. Please check with Jigs’n’Rigs on face book for more info or contact Benny McDermott or any of the dancers. Dancing until late, with a DJ after the show. Goodluck to all involved and there’s sure to be plenty of craic for the audience too.

The reserve footballers had a good win over Red Hughs in the 1st leg of their Junior B Championship match in Burt on Sunday. Goals from Christopher McDermott and two from Phelim Henry in the first half gave Burt a commanding half-time lead. The defence was well marshalled by Joe Donaghey and Michael Gallagher and the Killygordon outfit could find no way through on goal. The final score was Burt 3-9, Red Hughs 0-5.

The senior footballers defeated Downings in Sunday’s second game played in Hibernian Park. Burt started off to a flyer with two goals from Paul McHugh and Joe Boyle. Downings found a way through to goal themselves midway through the half and by half-time there was two points between the sides – Burt 2-2, Downings 1-3. Downings got the first score of the second half but that was the closest they would get as Burt started to edge ahead with points coming from all over the side. Final score was Burt 2-12, Downings 1-7.

The U16 hurlers had a fine win over MacCumhaills in the League semi-final last Thursday. Burt won 8-10 to 2-4 and will now face Ballyshannon in the Final this Thursday. Joe will be in contact about arrangements.
The U12 hurlers had a comfortable win over Setanta at The Cross last Thursday despite undermanned. This Thursday they are home to MacCumhaills. Johnny will be in contact with parents.
The minor footballers beat Glenswilly 1-9 to 0-4 in the Northern Board Division 2 championship last Friday in Hibernian Park. The second leg will take place this Friday in Glenswilly with throw-in at 7pm.

The U8 Hurling and Football Academy is now on Saturday mornings in Hibernian Park, Burt. Training starts from 10.30am to 12noon.. Any new players/members are welcome. Can parents please send lunch/drink with their child for the mid-session break. If anybody has any questions, please feel free to contact any of the coaches at anytime. The coaches and their numbers: Martin McGrath –  087 7431332; Rory Grant –  087 7763668; Benny Harrigan – 086 8670070; Johnny Downey – 086 3066874. Finally,  the club and team managers extend a warm invitation for any parents that would like to help out the coaches at these sessions in any way. All help no matter how big or small is greatly appreciated!

The U13 footballers have a match away to Malin on Saturday in the NB Div 2 League. Seán will be in contact about arrangements. . U13/14 football training is on Saturday mornings at Hibernian Park from 10.30 -12 noon. Please remember to bring your water bottle for hygiene reasons. Anyone that has lotto cards or who sells lottos for the club, please remember to hand them into your coach at training.

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot last week. Two weekly winners were: Breege Grant, Burt, €30 and Bobby Porter, Skeoge, €30. The numbers drawn were 2,7,8,16,19. Next week’s jackpot is €1750. Anyone with lotto’s should have them in the clubhouse by Tuesday night at 8pm or hand it to any club member. If anyone is interested in signing up to the direct debit, please contact Liam McKinney. Many thanks for your continued support.
