A number of tourists were robbed as they visited Donegal’s famous An Grianan Fort, Donegaldaily.com has learned.

At least FIVE cars were broken into as visitors walked around the famous site in Burt at the weekend.

It is believed property including handbags was stolen during the thefts which are understood to have happened in a matter of seconds.

Gardai are aware of the incident and are carrying out a full investigation into the incident.

The latest robberies come after an alarming spate of car break-ins across the county.

Yesterday we revealed how people visiting graves in Stranorlar had been targeted.

A woman’s car was broken into and a considerable sum of money stolen was stolen.

People visiting other graveyards including Conwall in Letterkenny have also been targeted by thieves.

A Garda source appealed to people not to leave valuables on display in cars.

“If there are no valuables including handbags or cameras left on display then the chances are thieves will not bother with them.

“All they are interested in is breaking into the car and taking the valuables as quickly as possible.

“They are not interested in breaking into a car on spec and then searching around it looking for valuables.

“That takes too long – they just want to get in and out and then move away with the valuables,” he said.
