Donegal League Final

The scheduled 2011 Donegal League final first leg match against Rosapenna Golf club had to be cancelled due the adverse weather warning for last Sunday. The first leg match will now take place on Sunday 18th September at Rosapenna golf club. The Donegal League captain John Logue encourages as many as possible to come and support the team on the day.

Past Captains

The prestigious J J Wall past captain’s cup was staged at Portsalon golf club on Saturday last. As in previous years the event attracted a large turnout of past captains of Portsalon Golf Club. Playing in bluster weather conditions the overall winner was Michael Shields 41 points.

Portsalon Winter Links

Following the announcement last week of the Portsalon winter links there has been a good response and the time sheet is filling up. The event will be staged exclusively at Portsalon Golf Course. The first outing is scheduled to tee off on Saturday 1st October. Membership to the event will be Portsalon members €10 with visitors €15., entry into each days competition thereafter Portsalon members €10, visitors €20.The normal prize format of four nett and four gross prizes will be on offer (depending on the entry). The dates for this years event are as follows; October 1st, 29th, Nov 12th, 26th, Dec 16th, Jan 28th Feb 25th March 10th and Captains day on March 24th If you are interested in joining this winter links competition, contact 07491 59459 to book you place. All should also note that if a member’s misses two consecutive events without notifying the clubhouse, their name will be removed from the time sheet

Captain’s Outing

As the date is fast approaching for the captain’s week end away all who have entered their names must have the deposit paid by Sunday 11th September. If the deposit is not paid the name(s) will be removed and the places offered to the reserve list. The outing is to Portstewart on 24th & 25th September

Events

On Saturday 17th September there is a gents 18 hole open competition and on Sunday 18TH September there is a members competition. On Wednesday 21st September there is a gents open stableford competition. Time sheets are in operation for all competitions contact 0749159459 or go online to portsalongolfclub.com. The first tee is reserved on Saturday from 12 noon to 3 p.m.

Results

Winner of the open competition played on Saturday 10th was Odhran Mc Gowan (17) 37 points Runner up Tim Browne (4) 34 points, third Paddy Sheridan (9) 34 points. The CSS was 74.On Sunday last only the brave and the seasoned golfers teed off as the wind and rain battered the golden Banks of Portsalon. The winner of the members competition was Bernard Nash 34 points. The winner of the Wednesday open was Garret Horkin (19) with 36 points.

Match Play

The draw has now been finalised for the semi finals of the 2011 doubles match play competitions. Due to matches not been played by the due dates a draw was held on Sunday to determine the semi final places.

New Members

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance
