PLAN TO ERECT INFANT MEMORIAL AT BURT CEMETERY

Plans are in place to erect a permanent memorial to children buried outside consecrated ground inside Burt Cemetery.

The plot was originally placed outside the grounds of the graveyard but the extension of the graveyard means it is now inside the present boundaries.

Almost every parish in the county has experienced similar situations and many have since taken steps to address this sensitive subject.

At an inaugural meeting held two weeks ago, support was expressed for the project by all those attending including local curate for the area Fr Sweeney.

Fr Sweeney said he would be happy conduct a service of remembrance when the project has been completed.

Already some donations for the project have been received and future fundraising activities will be discussed at the meeting, which will take place in An Grianan Hotel Burt on Thursday next 22nd September commencing at 8.00 pm.

Everyone with an interest is encouraged to attend and voice his or her opinions and aspirations in relation to the project.
