Thousands of people thronged the streets of Bundoran today for the opening ceremony of EuroSurf – the European Surfing Championships.
Minister of State Dinny McGinley, TD, helped get the event underway and said later: “This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase all the Co Donegal has to offer, particularly for surfers who come here from all over the world.”
Sixteen teams from all over Europe as well as from Israel and Morocco will take part in the prestigious ten-day event.
More than 20,000 people are expected to visit the county in the next ten days, generating millions of euro for the economy.
Television coverage will ensure Bundoran could be seen by up to 25 countries around the world.
The end of the parade saw a protest from surfers over sewage still being pumped into the sea.
