The Rosapenna Golf Club continued their celebrations in winning the Donegal interclub league of last weekend when two of their members took the top prizes in the Alliance in the nett and gross sections.
The course was in excellent condition with a great covering of grass on the greens which were as usual very true but slightly slower than usual.
A total of 85 golfers pitted their skills against the course often referred to as the Irish St. Andrews and as happens on the best courses the Cream rose to the top.
In the Nett section Marty McDermott continued his great run of form with a one over gross and 4 under par nett score of 66 .He beat by one stroke Clive Davison who will have cause to rue double bogies on 9 and particularly 16.
In the Gross Enda Kennedy was one ahead of no less than four competitors after the first nine, Jayson McIntyre, Noel Callan, Sean Quigg and Marty McDermott.
At the 11th Jayson had dropped out of contention as he had two double bogies.
Marty had drawn level with Enda after a birdie at 10. Noel was still there but he fell by the way side carding bogies at 14 and 15 following a birdie on 13.Sean Quigg was just one behind.
The story after 14 was no change. On 15 Marty and Enda dropped a shoot while Sean parred. This meant that all three were now level .However the final throw of the dice came at the 17th when both Marty Sean dropped strokes while Enda had a par and like the other two birdied the 18th to emerge as the winner of the Gross section for the second competition in a row .Sean was runner up in the Gross while Marty won the Nett.
All congratulations to two of the Alliance professional members who progressed during the week to the second stage of qualifying for the European Tour .Well done to Michael McGeady and Brendan McCarroll.,,.0m
Next competition is in Nairn/Portnoo G.C. on 22nd October 2011
