MURPHY’S LAST GASP GOAL SNATCHES VICTORY FOR GLENSWILLY IN ULSTER CHAMPIONSHIP

Donegal senior champions Glenswilly have pulled off a surprise by beating hotly-tipped Cavan Gaels in the Ulster Club Championship.

Once again it was Michael Murphy who inspired his side with a last gasp goal to help the Glen men beat the Gaels by a single point at Breffni Park on a scoreline of 1-08 to 10 points.

Having beaten St.Michael’s in the Donegal Senior Championship final at MacCumhaill Park, many pundits thought Glenswilly would find it tough against the Cavan champions.

And with two points to spare in injury time, it looked as if Cavan had done enough.

But not many teams can boast having the calibre of player as Murphy on their side as he pounced to snatch victory with a penalty in what was a great overall team display from Glenswilly.

The sides were level at 0-6 each at half-time after Michael Lyng and Seanie Johnston had hit the target for Gaels, with Keelan McFadden and Murphy responding.

Conor McClarey gave Cavan the lead in the closing stages, but they were stunned by Murphy’s late strike.

And it was the pundits what won it, with the management team revealing afterwards that they told the players to prove to the so-called experts how wrong they were.
