A Donegal Sinn Fein councillor has been suspended from the party as part of an internal investigation.

Ballyshannon Town Councillor Rosaleen Branley was suspended form the party due to “possible breaches of Sinn Fein’s code of conduct.”

The chairperson of the Connaught/Ulster Sinn Fein, Eamon Nolan confirmed the suspension.

It follows a recent court case in which a person was cleared of assault.

Mr Nolan said, “After noting comments made by the judge at the recent court hearing, which highlighted possible breaches of Sinn Féin’s code of conduct, Cllr Branley has been suspended without prejudice, pending an internal investigation into the alleged incident.
