€500,000 BILL FOR ‘STUPID’ COURT CASE AGAINST DONEGAL TD

THE taxpayer is to be left with a bill of more than half a million euros – thanks to a ‘stupid’ legal challenge against Donegal Sinn Fein representative Pearse Doherty.

Mr Doherty had won a legal challenge against the last Fianna Fail government forcing a by-election in Donegal South West last November which he went on to win.

Fianna Fail then continued a challenge to the High Court ruling even after the by-election – which the Fine Gael government CONTINUED with…until yesterday when it was taken out of the Supreme Court.

The costs of the decision of both governments could run to €500,000.

“This case should have been dropped,” said Deputy Doherty.

“And it should have been dropped a long long time ago. I asked the new government to drop its appeal and it refused.

“The costs will now be picked up by ordinary people.”
