A project backed by three Letterkenny secondary schools has been selected for the finals of a national competition.

BEO, which has seen the three schools create their own music project involving live bands, will compete against four other projects in the Design for Learning Project.

The competition is run in conjunction with the National Science Gallery.

The Letterkenny-based project, which involves Colaiste Ailigh, Loreto Letterkenny and St.Eunans, is the only schools-based project to make the final.

The winner will receive a substantial prize of €5,000 to further their project in the future.

Students form the three schools will be travelling to Dublin tomorrow to see just what they have to do in the final on December 2nd.

Coincidentally BEO has another night of live music this evening featuring perhaps its most ambitious gig to date.

Featuring a certifiable range of top class acts including La Galaxie, The Wondervillains, Red Light Inferno, In Their Thousands and The Jamaican Vampires.

The latest gig and the workshop which will be put on during the day almost didn’t go ahead – because of its own popularity!

The event, which sees a workshop take place at the LYIT all day before heading to the Regional Culture Centre (behind An Grianan Theatre) at 6pm involves for than 400 students.

Ooonagh Ni Chleirigh said “It’s going to be a great day with 400 transition year students gathering in Letterkenny for the afternoon sessions and a large crowd expected to attend the gig that night,” she said.

BEO also thanked An Grianan and Craoibin Termon for offering their services.

Admission to the gig is just €5 and all are welcome.
