LETTERKENNY General Hospital is struggling to cope today with a massive increase in patients – with a plea from doctors for people to avoid the Emergency Department it at all possible.
Insiders say the hospital is under-staffed due to Government cuts and this, coupled with a rise in patients, has brought on the latest crisis.
“It’s crazy here and has been for the past few days,” said one hospital insider.
“Management will say it’s down to patient numbers. The fact is we don’t have the staff to cope.”
A short time ago a spokesperson for Letterkenny General Hospital said that the hospital has been extremely busy over the last number of days due to the large number of people attending the Emergency Department.
The spokesperson added: “We would encourage the public to visit the Emergency Department only in the case of real emergencies, and would advise people to contact their GP or GP Out-of-Hours service NoWDOC in the first instance.
“Management and staff at Letterkenny General Hospital regret any inconvenience caused and thank people for their cooperation.”
