PORTSALON GOLF CLUB NOTES

Portsalon Golf News

It was a case of good news for Portsalon Golf Club during the past week. The prestigious Golf Digest top 100 golf clubs in Ireland and the Golf Monthly 100 gems of golf clubs in GB & Ireland was released. Continuing on the success of previous years in the Golf Digest magazine Portsalon Golf course has improved in design and condition over the years. In last weeks announcement Portsalon golf clubhas come from last years 37th position to a fantastic 27th place in this years charts. The Portsalon links has gained a number of places oon the top links courses up to 21st. The Golf Monthly recently highlighted their top 100 hidden gems of golf clubs in Ireland and GB and Portsalon Golf Club again figures in this prestigious list. Portsalon golf club is now recognised as one of the must play golf clubs in Ireland and GB. Congratulations to John Shields and all the greens staff for their hard work both in good and bad weather to maintain and improve our facility over the year.

Portsalon Winter Links

The Portsalon Winter Links was staged on Saturday last and playinfg in bluster weather conditions the results were as follows in the gross section the winner was Winner: Conor Connolly (4) P/S 31pts Runner Up: Diarmuid Logue (5) P/S 30pts BOT

Thrid: Stephen Connolly (5) P/S 30pts BOT Fourth: Seamus Patton (5) Letterkenny 30ptsIn the Nett section the winner was Eddie Mc Hugh (15) Letterkenny 41pts

Runner Up: Joe Hensey (14) P/S 36ptsThrid: Maurice Mc Gettigan (16) Strabane 35pts BOTFourth:Tony Morrison (16) P/S 35pts. The next outing of the Portsalon Winter Links is scheduled for Saturday 12th November.

Results

It was a case of a return to great ness on Wednesday as the popular Eugene Gallagher (19) was the winner of the Wednesday open with 38 points, runner up Joe Coyle (6) 33 points. The high scores witnessed the previous week were well and truly reduced as a strong wind blew across ‘’The Banks’’ The winner was Aneas Conaghan (21) with 37 points runner up Chuck Mc Taggart (13) 32 points, gross Eamon Mc Dermott (4) 27 points third Paddy Mc Groarty (19) 31 points.

Events

On Saturday 19th November there is a gents open competition and Sunday 20th November there will be member’s turkey competitions.and on Wednesday 23rd November there is gents open stableford competition. Course Improvements

The course improvements are continuing and the members will by now have witness the new bunker at the 17th green on the 17th fairway.. The fairways on the 2nd, 7th and 9th are showing fantastic improvements due to the drop off rule over the past few weeks.

Drop Off

Over the past few weeks members and visitors have been requested to drop off the 2nd, 7th and 9th fairways. As a result the fairways on the selected holes are improving. The fairways will be clearly identified. Please ensure that you drop off on either side of the fairway.

Placing

All members and visitors should note that six inch placing on all fairways only is in operation at Portsalon Golf Club.

Divot Bags

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance
