UNIONIST MINISTER ASKS DONEGAL PATIENTS TO COUGH UP €800K IN UNPAID HOSPITAL BILLS!

PEOPLE from Donegal owe the health authorities in the North a staggering Stg620,000 – almost €800,000 in unpaid medical bills, the north’s health minister said today.

Edwin Poots said he had ordered the Western Health Trust to recoup £345k owed this year and an outstanding £275k from last year.

“This is very concerning,” said the DUP man

“We are all under pressure and I want the Western Trust to chase this money and get it in so that we can reduce the impact of local cuts.”

In a statement a spokesperson for the Western Trust said: “All outstanding invoices for these treatments are pursued and payment remains the responsibility of individual patients. In the majority of cases amounts outstanding are received by the Trust.”

The spokesperson added: “There are many legitimate reasons why payment may be delayed from cross-border patients.”
